When thinking about the strong female role models in my life, I was startled to realize they were not athletes, celebrities, models or famous activists or political figures. Instead, they were teachers — in science, social studies, English, dance, Spanish and art — I had throughout my elementary and high school years
Granted, most teachers back then were female. But still, what impresses me is that I chose real women who were not famous or wealthy. They simply showed up every day to convey their passion for what they were teaching, which made me excited to learn.
