Seriously, folks!
Over the years, the prose written by the winners of the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest has never failed to crack me up. And how amazing that the contest was sponsored by the English Department at my local university, San Jose State. Bless you, Prof. Scott E. Rice, for getting that proverbial ball rolling!
It pains me to say that despite my obvious talent, I never once entered, and so never plumbed the depths of deplorable wordplay.
And for those of you who don’t know, the contest is named after Edward George Bulwer-Lytton, author of the famous first line, “It was a dark and stormy night” in his 1830 novel, Paul Clifford.
