Haikus: Love 'em or hate 'em?

I saw this sign in downtown San Jose and had to laugh, because I agree, even though I sometimes write haikus, a Japanese form of 3-line poetry with this many syllables per line: 5, 7, 5.
I find that when they work, they're wonderful, but often they might be wonderful, but I can't tell because I don't understand then.
Here’s one I wrote. I hope it makes sense!
“Courage”
To have courage eat
it daily like porridge, no
sugar. A sweet life.
